Slings and Arrows: Trade Secret Trends Reflect a Need for Safeguards

Tim joined BakerHostetler after serving 10 years with the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division, most recently as acting assistant chief of the Civil Conduct Task Force, where he was involved in and supervised the prosecution of complex antitrust conduct claims.

Tim previously served in the Antitrust Division front office as a counsel to the assistant attorney general and also as an international counsel. In these roles, he advised the Division’s political leadership on many of the most challenging policy issues, including those related to global regulation of technology platforms, standard essential patents, global due process safeguards and divergence in global enforcement policy.

Tim also represented the Department of Justice on the Trade Policy Staff Committee. He negotiated free trade agreements, reviewed trade and tariff policy and advised the White House and executive branch agencies on the intersection of trade and antitrust law and policy.

Tim began his career at a large international law firm representing clients on a broad range of antitrust matters. He has represented clients in a range of sectors, including technology platforms, payment systems, semiconductors, advertising, transportation, oil field services, real estate, sports and agriculture.

<li>United States v. Google: Represented the United States. Responsible for developing theories of monopolization related to Google advertising technologies and supervising case team through trial to a favorable verdict.</li>
<li>Represented an airline holding as a plaintiff alleging Sherman Section 1 and Section 2 claims in federal and state law equivalents in state courts.</li>
<li>Represented a semiconductor company in federal private Section 2 case.</li>
<li>Represented a semiconductor company in connection with an enforcement action brought by the FTC under Section 5 of the FTC Act.</li>
<li>Represented a bleach producer and seller in connection with FTC investigation into bleach industry.</li>
<li>Represented an electronics company in follow-on civil litigation by classes, individual purchasers and state attorneys general in federal and state courts regarding the TFT-LCD flat panel display components.</li>
