President Donald Trump is hosting meetings with the leaders of France and the United Kingdom.

Republicans hope to take a crucial step to advance their ambitious legislative plans as the House plans to vote on their budget resolution, but the outcome is in doubt given their one-vote margin.

Washington has varied <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/02/23/trump-musk-doge-federal-workers-threat" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reactions</a> to Elon Musk’s weekend email to federal employees demanding that they document their work from last week or lose their jobs.

The House will hold <a href="https://www.majorityleader.gov/schedule/weekly-schedule.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">floor votes</a> tonight through Thursday, taking up Republicans’ <a href="https://rules.house.gov/bill/119/h-con-res-14" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">budget resolution</a> to advance their reconciliation plans – but leadership can only afford to lose one vote, and several lawmakers appear are <a href="https://punchbowl.news/archive/22425-am/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">signaling</a> opposition.

The Financial Services Committee will hold a <a href="https://financialservices.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=409467" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> tomorrow on policies to counter China.

Also tomorrow, the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee will hold a <a href="https://waysandmeans.house.gov/event/trade-subcommittee-hearing-on-american-trade-enforcement-priorities/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> on trade enforcement priorities.

Having advanced its own budget blueprint, the Senate will continue <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/floor_activity_pail.htm" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">voting</a> on Trump’s nominees, including Jamieson Greer to be U.S. trade representative.

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Wednesday will hold a <a href="https://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/hearings?ID=1C51700D-3D47-4CC5-9C6E-DD1E38E41354" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> on Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act implementation.

Also Wednesday, the Senate Banking Digital Assets Subcommittee will hold a <a href="https://www.banking.senate.gov/hearings/exploring-bipartisan-legislative-frameworks-for-digital-assets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hearing</a> on legislation to regulate digital assets.

French President Emmanuel Macron is <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-macron-ukraine-china-ec6310fca8b9a20650bbb196d48d43f9" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">visiting</a> the White House today.

Trump will <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/remarks/2025/02/press-briefing-by-press-secretary-karoline-leavitt-deputy-chief-of-staff-stephen-miller-national-economic-council-director-kevin-hassett-and-national-security-advisor-mike-waltz/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hold</a> his first formal cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Thursday, Trump will <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3w16l6xx39o" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">host</a> British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House.
