Partner Alexander Reid commented on a controversy over where the University of Michigan president declares residency in an article from <em>The Detroit News</em> titled “Ono’s House Buy Draws Scrutiny; UM Leader Declaring Oakland Site Principal Residence Raises Questions.” Published July 31, 2024, the article explains that, while he is contractually obligated to live in the president’s house on campus, President Santa Ono and his wife also purchased a house in nearby West Bloomfield Township where he declared primary residency, thereby saving approximately $3800 in taxes as part of Michigan’s principal residence exemption.
